The Y and OlyFed are two of just a handful of organizations that have been a part of the Thurston County community for well over 100 years. The partnership between the two organizations dates back to the early 1900s when the bank’s early leaders were involved in fundraising and making sure Olympia was home to a host of valuable health and social welfare programs. OlyFed was a key contributor to the construction of the original downtown Olympia Y and the creation of one of the area’s first indoor pools in 1955. It continued its Capital Campaign support with significant gifts to the development of the Briggs YMCA in the mid-1990s. The Y plays such a unique role in our community – from childcare and education programs to youth sports and fitness offerings – the impact of the Y is tremendous, says Lori Drummond, OlyFed President & CEO. My dad Ray was also a banker and very involved with the Y. It is inspiring to see so many generations of local businesses and families continue the tradition of supporting the health and well-being of our neighbors. This philosophy of community support is clear when you look around the South Sound and see the number of projects, events, and organizations that OlyFed sponsors. If you look closely, you’ll also see OlyFed employees volunteering thousands of hours in support of issues and organizations they care about in our community. Like the Y, OlyFed is committed to making our community one where all people can succeed.
