A Passion for Pets: Fur Love Haven

OlyFedders love their pets! We see evidence of that each year during our Pet Calendar Contest. Compliance Manager, Heidi Retzlaff, wants to make sure ALL pets find a loving home through her work with Fur Love Haven rescue.

The idea to start Fur Love Haven sparked while Heidi was a volunteer with Joint Animal Services. During her time there, she got into Instagram and Facebook and realized there was a lot of networking that happens on behalf of what they call, “euthanasia-listed dogs,” or dogs at shelters that are going to be euthanized for various reasons.

Heidi started her own social page and began to build a network to find help for these animals in need of a miracle, and in 2019, Fur Love Haven was born. As a foster-based rescue that operates out of Washington and Oregon, but rescues dogs and cats from as far as California and Texas, Heidi relies on this network animal-loving friends and the power of social media.

“We became aware of a six-month-old Shepherd named Grace in a shelter in California who came in with two broken legs and broken pelvis. We had a matter of days to get her out of the shelter before they had to put her to sleep,” Heidi shares. When Fur Love Haven shared Grace’s story on their social media, the response was immediate.

“So many people from all over teamed up to save this little six-month-old pup in a very rural part of California. Thanks to all the shares and comments, Grace was able to leave that shelter in the nick of time.”

Grace is on her way to healing. Fur Love Haven also helps with supplies, transport, medical expenses and vaccines for animals like Grace. They accept monetary donations to help cover these costs and are always looking for loving foster homes. Join their network on Instagram and Facebook.
